How to Download Threads Videos on Android

Where does the file go?

Chrome on Android saves to the Downloads folder. Your gallery app usually picks it up within a few seconds and shows it alongside your photos.

If it doesn't appear in your gallery, open the Files app, go to Downloads, and the video is sitting there. You can move it into your camera folder from there if you want it grouped with your own videos.

Why can't I find the download button?

The download button appears only after the tool has loaded the post. Paste the link first, then tap Download, and the file options appear below the box. If you pasted a link and nothing happened, the link is either from a private account or the post has been deleted.

This is the single most common confusion in this whole category, and it isn't your fault. People who've used these tools report reaching a working downloader and still not finding the control. One Reddit user put it plainly: "I couldn't find any button or long press to download videos."

Here's what's going on. Most downloaders show you an empty box and nothing else. The button only exists after the tool fetches the post. So if you're looking for it before pasting, there's nothing to find.

Two things to check if the button still doesn't show:

• Your link isn't a post link. A profile link (threads.com/@username) won't work. You need the link to the specific post.
• You're on a private account. Nothing can reach those. More on that below.

Why doesn't this show up in my Share menu?

This is a website, not an app, so it won't appear in Android's "Share to" menu. That menu only lists installed apps. Copy the link instead and paste it here. The trade-off is worth it: nothing to install, nothing taking up storage, and nothing to update.

A common complaint about the Android downloader apps is exactly this feature failing anyway. One Google Play reviewer wrote: "It does not appear in the 'Share to' menu. :/" So the share integration people install an app for often doesn't work.

Why do Threads downloader apps keep breaking?

Threads changes its site structure regularly. When it does, every downloader breaks at once. An installed app can't be fixed until the developer ships an update and you download it, which takes days. A website gets fixed on the server, so the next time you load the page it already works.

This isn't theoretical. People who've used the Android apps report the same cycle over and over:

• A Google Play reviewer in August 2026 reported every link returning "Invalid threads URL" on an app that had worked before. The developer said Threads had changed and a fix was coming in the next version.
• Another reviewer described roughly two weeks with no downloads at all, then an update, then "App was updated and is working again!"
• A third wrote: "i just paid but app can't downloading".

That last one is the part that stings. You install an app, some of them charge, and then it stops working and you wait.

Nothing is immune to Threads changing things, including this tool. The difference is how fast it gets fixed and whether you have to do anything about it. You don't.

What can I save from Threads on Android?

You can save videos, photos, GIF-style clips and voice posts from any public Threads post. Files come down at the quality Threads stores them at, with no watermark added and nothing cropped. Private accounts aren't supported by any tool.

Two things people get caught out by.

GIFs come down as MP4. Threads doesn't store GIFs as .gif files. It converts them to short looping videos. So when you save one, you get an MP4. That's not a bug in the tool, it's how Meta stores the file. If you need an actual .gif, you'll have to convert it afterwards.

Posts with several videos. A common complaint about the apps is getting only one file from a post that contained several, or getting a photo when you asked for the video. Can I download videos from private Threads accounts?

No. Private posts are only visible to approved followers, and no downloader can reach them. Any site promising private downloads is either not working or asking for your login, which you should never give it. This tool only handles public posts.

Be careful here. Some sites advertise private account downloads. Treat that as a warning sign rather than a feature. A tool that genuinely needs your Threads password to work is a tool that now has your Threads password.
