Pro Tip:
Save the link, not a screenshot. A screenshot gives you the image at your screen's resolution with the Threads interface around it. The actual file is usually much larger and completely clean.
The preview step matters more than it sounds. A post with eight images gives you eight previews, so you're picking rather than guessing.
Why won't Threads let me save an image?
The native Save Image action fails on iPhone when the Photos permission is set to Limited or off. It fails silently, with no error. Go to Settings, Apps, Photos and toggle access off and back on. Saving to Files works even when saving to Photos doesn't.
This is a real and long-running bug, not something you're doing wrong.

Can I download all the images from one post?
Yes. Paste the link and every image in the post is listed at once. Save them individually or take the whole set in one go. Posts with ten images work the same as posts with two.
What about posts with photos and video mixed together?
Mixed posts are where most downloaders fall over. Every item found in the post is listed here separately and labelled by type. Three photos and a video shows up as four items, not one guess.
Can I download GIFs from Threads?
Yes, but you'll get an MP4 rather than a .gif file. Threads converts GIFs to short looping videos when they're uploaded, so an MP4 is what Meta actually stores. That's the platform's format, not a limitation of the tool.
What quality do Threads photos download in?
Photos come down at the resolution Threads stores, saved as JPG. Nothing is re-compressed or re-encoded on the way out. If the original was uploaded at high resolution, that's what you get.
Threads compresses images on upload. So the ceiling isn't set by the downloader, it's set by what Meta kept.

Does Threads tell someone when you save their photo?
No. Threads sends no notification when you save an image from a public post. The person who posted it has no way to know. That applies to the native Save Image action and to any downloader.
