The actual file Threads stores is considerably larger. That's what this returns.
How do I download a Threads profile picture?
Open the profile on Threads, copy the profile URL, and paste it into the box above. The full size image loads and you save it as a JPG. Profile links look like threads.com/@username, which is different from a post link.
Open the Threads profile you want.
On desktop, copy the URL from the address bar. On mobile, tap the menu and choose Copy link.
Paste it into the box above.
Click Download.

Pro Tip:
Saving your own profile picture before changing it is worth doing. Threads doesn't keep old avatars anywhere you can reach, so once you replace it the previous one is gone unless you kept a copy.
The link is the part people get wrong. You need the profile URL, not a link to one of their posts. A profile URL ends in the username with nothing after it.
Pasting a post link here will load the post's media instead, which isn't what you're after. Post media belongs in the photo and GIF downloader.
What size is a Threads profile picture?
Threads publishes profile pictures at a fixed maximum size, and this tool returns that full version rather than the small one shown in the feed. There's a ceiling, and it's Meta's. Threads resizes profile pictures when they're uploaded. Whatever you get is the largest version Meta stores, not the original file the person uploaded. No tool can retrieve something Threads never kept.
Upscaling isn't a feature. Anything advertising a profile picture in HD or 4K is describing an image that was enlarged after the fact, which adds pixels without adding detail. The result looks softer, not sharper. What you get here is the stored file, unchanged.
Can people see if you save their profile picture?
No. Threads sends no notification when someone saves a profile picture. The person has no way to know, whether you used a downloader or took a screenshot.
Can I download a private account's profile picture?
No. Private profiles aren't publicly reachable, so nothing can retrieve the image. Any site claiming to pull private profile pictures is either not working or asking for login details you should not give out.

Can you change your Threads profile picture?
